Heyyy, wish you all Happy New Years!
Recently, the committee considered moving the Saturday training timeslot at Kenshikan because it’s currently at quite an awkward time frame (3pm – 4:30pm).

So, here is a poll with the possible times the training time can be changed to, please vote for a time slot that suits you. The due date of the poll is at the end of January.

Also, please let us know if there’s any issue.

AKC 2020 – Call for Volunteers

Dear All,

The VKR is the host of the 2020 Australian Kendo Championships (AKC) held in Melbourne on 10-14 April 2020.

The VKR is now calling for volunteers to assist with the running of the AKC 2020.

Volunteers are needed for the following tasks:

  • Venue set up, and competitor registrations on Friday April 10
  • Court assistants on the shiaijo and general tasks during competition on Saturday April 11 and Sunday April 12
  • General assistance with supporting the seminar, grading and pack up on Monday April 13 and Tuesday April 14

The AKC is Australia’s premier Kendo competition and cannot be successfully held without your club’s support. We request all clubs encourage their members to support this event.

2020 AKC Volunteer Roster

Please make sure you indicate your current grade, whether or not you have any previous experience supporting competition and if you have first aid qualifications.

Volunteer training and induction will be provided prior to the event (date to be advised). The volunteer roster is being co-ordinated by Libby Riches, who can be contacted at libby@trueplaces.com.au if you have any questions.

(Note: Shinpan registrations will be via the official registration process. Details will be provided shortly.)

Call for Applications:

Applications are now called for Kata Pairs to represent the VKR at the 2020 AKC’s to be held here in Melbourne on April 11 & 12.

The selection session will be held at the Kenshikan at 12:30, Sunday 2 February, prior to the Kendo Team Selection session.

Persons applying must be financial members of the VKR, and fully committed to attending the Championships.

The first three months of 2020 will be busy as usual, leading up to the Australian Kendo championships in April, particularly for senior members.

The following events will not be possible without their support:

Sun Feb 2: Kendo teams selection, possible Kata selection.
Sun Feb 16 Pre – AKC Shinpan seminar.
Sun Feb 23 VKR AGM.

Sat Feb 29) Nittaidai Seminar
Sun Mar 1) Asian Zone Shinpan Seminar

Sun Mar 8 Possible Kata Selection.
Sun Mar 15 Kendo Grading 6k – 3k.
Sun Mar 22 Kendo grading 2k – 4D.

Sat Apr 11) Australian Kendo Championships.
Sun Apr 12)

As I said before, none of these events can be conducted without the
support of the senior grades. Specific requests will be sent out for
each event.
