VKR News

Hi All;

Just to give you an update on where we’re at as the VKR continues to operate even with keiko suspended.

Gradings
First up, after discussion with the Kendo, Iaido/Jodo technical committee, decisions and announcements about any grading events happening in 2020 will be made two months before the grading month with the condition that training can resume fully in the month announcement is made. This is to allow clubs and members sufficient time to get back in training mode and for members to recover their fitness and techniques.

We are closely monitoring the Victorian and Federal Governments recommendations to help guide our decisions and recommendation. The executive committee has been communicating fortnightly since the lockdown to ensure we are as responsive as possible to the changing environment.

VKC
Decision about VKC will be made in May. Again subject to government regulations and ability of us going back to full training for three months prior to the event. Together with the VKTC, we have considered postponement but at this stage, have concluded that a postponement is not feasible given the calendar from September to mid December. Stay tuned.

Insurance Cover for People/Clubs running virtual trainings at home
There have been some queries regarding insurance coverage for virtual/remote training sessions. The AKR has followed up with our insurer and we expect an official message from the AKR regarding this shortly.

All the best to everyone. We hope to see you all at keiko again soon. Meanwhile please keep safe and cherish your time with your family and loved ones.

Kind regards

Pete Mawhinney
