Dear VKR Members,
Please see below request from AKR regarding AKR’s Strategic Plan Working Group. Apologies for the delays in issuing this to you as was missed in the new VKR committee’s transition.
While we have missed the deadline stated below, the AKR have indicated they are still open to interest from members to be on the working group.
So if anyone is interested, please email Michael Dunn at [email protected] by 15 April 2021

Dear AKR members,
The AKR Strategic Plan (attached) has expired and the National Council would like to invite members on the AKR to have input into the revision of the plan. The idea is to have a working group to review and update the plan which will be presented to the National Council fore the end of this financial year. This new plan will be the AKR Strategic Plan 1 July 2021 – 30 June 2024
The purpose of the Strategic Plan is to:
- Clearly define the purpose of the AKR and to establish realistic goals and objectives,
- Communicate those goals and objectives to the members and stakeholders,
- Guide the AKR, and the Kendo, Iaido and Jodo Board’s activities over the next 3 years,
- Focusing the AKR’s resources on key priorities, and
- Provide a baseline from which progress can be measured.
Process will involve:
- Identify where the AKR is at now,
- Where we want to be in the future, and
- How we will get there.
Time frame – we need people willing to meet online and have discussions 2-3 times during March/April. Also willing to participate on-line (using MS Teams) to:
- Undertake a SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats) analysis.
- Review purpose – Who, What, Why…
- Confirm Strategic Pillars, objectives
- Review / formulate strategies – how to get where we want to be
- Determine how to monitor how we are going.
No prior experience is needed – you just need some enthusiasm and have a vision or ideas about what you would like to see in the future AKR!
If you are interested, please email [email protected] with a brief statement on why you would like to be involved, and what you can contribute by 21st March 2021.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Kind regards,
Sioh-Yang Tan
