AKR Instructor, Coach & Officiator (ICO) development framework [Seniors only]

Dear AKR members,

The AKR Executive is pleased to advise that in 2021 we are implementing an Instructor, Coach & Officiator (ICO) development framework for use consistently across Kendo, Iaido and Jodo. This will replace the current Instructor Accreditation Scheme (IAS) effective immediately which has been in place since 2007.
Please find further information in the attached letter (ICO Implementation – AKR Exec email.pdf)

The National Council has appointed Damon Schearer as the Coaching Development Coordinator to oversee the implementation. Over the coming weeks/months Damon will be providing communication to members and the executives of Affiliated Renmei, on next steps for interim certification and future requirements. A dedicated email address has been established for this role – coachingdev@kendoaustralia.asn.au.

How do you even maintain your shinai?

In Kendo, we have to regularly maintain our Shinai or else it might crack/splinter during training and become a danger to others, and you also lose a shinai. To save your wallets and your training partners, you should come to the session on Wednesday!
If you’re real eager to know and can’t wait till Wednesday, you can check this video below on how we maintain our Shinai:
