VKR June 2021 Newsletter

Dear all,

We hope you are keeping well in the context of our latest lockdown. Hopefully, we will be able to back at training soon. The VKR will provide an update on any COVID-Safe requirements once restrictions have been lifted.

In the meantime, please see below for the latest updates from the VKR…..

VKR Membership Fees

Thanks to all those clubs that have submitted their Membership Fees for 2021-22. A friendly reminder that fees are due by 15 June 2021.
Please contact the VKR Registrar (Kumie) on [email protected] if you have any questions or need assistance.

Victorian Kendo Championships 2021

At this stage, the VKR still intends to hold the VKC on 14-15 August 2021. The current COVID lockdown has reminded us how quickly the situation can change though, so the VKR will continue to monitor the situation and provide further information. We expect to issue registration details in early July.

Clubs and members are reminded that competitors must be VKR financial members in order to compete in the VKC.

VKR Online Membership System Approved and Grant Funding Received!

On 30 May 2021, the VKR Committee of Management approved the implementation of an Online Membership System for the VKR. The new system will make it easier for members and clubs to manage their membership, receive information from the VKR and generally manage club activities. We think this will be a great new initiative for the VKR and the VKR executive would like to thank clubs for their support.

The system will be provided by “RevolutioniseSport” and will be rolled out in the coming months. We will contact clubs soon with next steps.

We are also pleased to announce that thanks to the Victorian Government’s Sporting Club Grants Program the VKR has received a grant of $5000 towards the implementation of the system, which will allow us to reduce the costs to clubs and to the VKR more generally.

Change to AKR Time in Grade Policy

On 6 June 2021, the National Council endorsed a change to the AKR Manual of Documents, relating to ‘Time in Grade’ policy for Kyu grades.

For Kyu grades, all three arts (Kendo, Iaido and Jodo) now require a minimum of 3 months between grading examinations.
Full details are available here:

Subject to COVID restrictions, the next Iaido/Jodo grading will be on Saturday 24 July 2021 and the next Kendo gradings will be in September 2021 (dates to be confirmed).

VKR Events – Google Calendar is back!

The online VKR Calendar is now back in action and available on the VKR website:

You can also subscribe to this calendar via Google Calendar and you will receive updates.

If you notice any errors or have questions, please contact the VKR Secretary.

Stay safe and hope to see us all back at training soon.

Cheers,
